What is a lucky hanko seal?

FAQs

What is a good luck hanko?

+

A good luck hanko is a stamp made from an auspicious material and carved in the kissotai (insotai) style, with strokes added to your name to ensure a lucky number of strokes, even if your original name has an unlucky number. At Kazama Inbo, we carefully and meticulously craft each hanko individually for every customer.

What kind of effects can a good luck seal have?

+

Lucky hanko (personal seals) serve as a charm to improve your fortune. We've received various good tidings from customers who have used our lucky hanko, such as winning big in lotteries, rapid company growth, and family reconciliation. A hanko is an extension of yourself and also a good luck charm.

What are the key points when choosing a good luck hanko?

+

First, we recommend creating a registered seal (jitsuin) to represent yourself. A mere acknowledgment seal (inkan) cannot be expected to bring good fortune. Furthermore, a seal with your full name, not just your surname or given name, serves as proof of your identity and leads to an improvement in your luck. For younger individuals, we recommend creating a single seal with your full name that can serve as both your registered seal and bank seal.

Are there any benefits to changing an existing hanko into a good luck hanko?

+

Lowering the grade or size of your current seal could potentially lead to a decline in your luck. By increasing the size or upgrading the material of your seal, you can expect an improvement in your luck. Especially during life's milestones or new beginnings, switching to a lucky seal can be a catalyst for positive changes.

What is your recommended seal material?

+

Ivory has long been known as a good luck charm and the highest quality seal material, making it ideal for improving one's fortune. Elephants are said to bring gods, and they often appear as subjects in sculptures and paintings at shrines and temples.

Are there any size requirements for a seal to be registered as a *jitsuin*?

+

While the size of a hanko that can be registered as a Jitsuin varies by municipality, it is generally recommended to be 15mm or larger. Our store offers 15mm, 16.5mm, and 18mm sizes, which are ideal for Jitsuin. Please choose according to the regulations of your local municipality.

Is a 12mm size effective as a good luck stamp?

+

The 12mm size only engraves the surname, so it cannot be expected to have the effects of a good fortune hanko. We recommend using it as an option when purchasing a registered seal. For a good fortune hanko, please choose a size of 13.5mm or larger that can accommodate the full name.

Is there a character limit for corporate seals and square seals?

+

Our standard allows for up to 8 characters for corporate seals and up to 6 characters for square seals. If you require more characters or a special design, please contact us for a personalized consultation.

When do I need a hanko?

+

In Japan, seals (hanko) are required in a variety of situations. Key examples include marriage, the birth of a child, purchasing a home, purchasing a car, starting a new job, and establishing a company. A registered seal (jitsuin) is particularly necessary when contracting for real estate purchase or sale, loan agreements, and car purchases, as a seal registration certificate (inkan shomeisho) is required for these.
